years Following the preparation form is a list of possible topics for parish prayer.

Welcome the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to lead the prayer, and quiet hearts, minds and spirits.

Gloria in excelsis Deo

Glory be to God on high, and on earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy

great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen

Individual (silent) Confession

Group Confession (together):

A Penitential Order: Book of Common Prayer Rite One

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is nothing good in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.

Restore those who are penitent, according to Your promises declared unto men in Christ Jesus Our Lord. Grant that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of His name. Amen.

Book of Common Prayer Rite Two:

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will and walk in your way, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Lay Absolution: Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ; strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

Dress in The Whole Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints…

THE WARRIOR’S PRAYER (Based on Ephesians 6)

Heavenly Father, Your warrior prepares for battle. Today, I claim victory over Satan the snares of the evil one by putting on the whole armour of God! I put on the Belt of Truth. May I stand firm in the truth of Your Word so I will not be a victim of Satan’s lies. I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness. May I guard my heart from evil so I will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ. I put on the Sandals of Peace. May I go out and proclaim the good news of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through me and be a light to all I encounter. I take the Shield of Faith. May I be ready to deflect Satan’s fiery darts of doubt, denial and deceit so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat. I put on the Helmet of Salvation. May I keep my mind focussed on You so Satan the enemy Satan will not have a stronghold on my thoughts. I take the Sword of the Spirit. May the two-edged sword of Your Word be ready in my hands so I can use it to take authority over the enemy. By faith, Your warrior has put on the whole armor of God. I am prepared to live this day in spiritual victory. Amen.
