One of the most effective tools for intercessors is praying together over a conference call, especially
during circumstances like these:
Bad Weather During episodes of bad weather that endanger travel, a conference call enables
the team to meet telephonically to cover their normal prayer assignments. We have experienced
dangerous storms literally dissipating after conference call intercessory prayer!
Geographic Challenges Prayer teams for national or statewide ministries are often dispersed
over wide areas, making it impossible to meet in person on a regular basis. In these cases conference
call prayer is the only practical way to intercede with the prayer of agreement. The many answered
prayers from these conference calls prove the adage,“there is no distance in prayer.”
Emergencies In situations like a sudden illness or a terrible accident there may not be time for a
face to face meeting, especially for emergencies which occur in the middle of the night. Prayer team
members can be contacted first by text or email and then come together quickly on a conference call.
Some churches designate intercessors for nighttime prayer, publishing a church contact number under a
ministry name such as “CLIP” (“Call Late, I’ll Pray”).
The format for conference call prayer group is very much like face-to-face prayer groups. The Leader is
responsible for setting an agenda and keeping the meeting on track. Prayer teams which normally meet
face-to-face have established relationships which enable the group to flow in prayer on conference calls.
National and statewide prayer groups normally come into being for a shared affinity such as evangelism
or a particular ministry, and can develop relationships over a few times of prayer even though the group
members may not have met face to face.
It is best to utilize a conference calling service where prayer team members call in to a conference call
phone number and access the meeting by entering the passcode. One service that has been available for
free over the last 20 years is “Free Conference Call.com”. Go to that website and fill out the forms and
you will receive an email with a number assigned to you to use at no cost. In a few months you will be
contacted to see if you want to retain the use of that same number, and if so, it is yours for as long as
you want it.
Almighty God, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to reconcile the world to yourself: We praise and bless you
for those whom you have sent in the power of the Spirit to preach the Gospel to all nations. We thank
you that in all parts of the earth a community of love has been gathered together by their prayers and
labors, and that in every place your servants call upon your Name; for the kingdom and the power and
the glory are yours forever. Amen.
